Hamsa is now an image of poise and elegance with a splash of ethnic luxury in the food scene of Chennai. If you’re not sure of what we’re talking about, check out our review for this restaurant. Now with festivities around the corner, the traditionality in them has gotten out a wide range of chocolates for celebration and being the exquisite beauty that is this place, expect no less than the finest of fine chocolates! Cocoatrait, one of the finest brands in the chocolate industry in the state, run by Nithin Chordia and his wife, manufactures these artisanal Chocolate Bars for Hamsa. Staunch believers in organic produce, they only make pure chocolate (which is chocolate made with cocoa butter) as opposed the ubiquitous compound chocolate bars (chocolates made with other oils and not cocoa butter)! With a detailed demo about how such pure chocolate is prepared and tempered etc, we were truly enlightened on how a truly good quality chocolate would be manufactured.
Another big lesson we learnt was about how chocolate was to be consumed, which against popular belief, shouldn’t be bitten immediately on consumption at cold temperatures but to be relished on the palate till it melts at the room temperature! That way all the flavours of the delicious piece of confectionery can be wholly relished. An appreciation session for the 7 types of chocolates launched as Hamsa Handmade was organised where we were taken for a happy, detailed and informative chocolate journey. The 7 flavours they’ve launched are:
- 65% Venezuelan Dark Chocolate
- 64% Madagascar Dark Chocolate with Canadian Cranberries and Himalayan Pink Salt
- 55% Dark Milk Chocolate with American Pistachios
- 53% Dark Milk Chocolate with Mangalorean Cashews and American Blueberries
- 38% (Swiss) Milk Chocolate with Roasted American Almonds and Rock Salt
- 38% African blend Milk Chocolate with Roasted Turkish Hazelnuts
- Creamy White with Spanish Saffron
These have been curated especially for the ethnic, traditional Hamsa. Each piece of chocolate has SUCH a depth of flavour and punch that would instantly create a strong impression. They have also forayed into the ‘Dark Milk’ sector of which they are one of the few pioneers in the country! This would be a perfect bridge for people who like slightly dark chocolate without it being too milky. The difference between the concentration of chocolates was also well distinguishable and spot on. These handcrafted goodies would be a perfect for both gifting or for serving as sweets to your guests as these are unique flavours and would be apt for celebrations and occasions.
While everything had it’s own audience depending on the flavour profile, if we were to pick favourites it would be Dark Chocolate with Cranberry and Pink Salt, Swiss Milk Chocolate with Roasted American Almonds and Rock Salt and the Creamy White with Spanish Saffron (closely resembled Rasmalai, the saffron flavour perfectly cutting through all the sweetness). As of now, these Chocolate Bars are to be priced between Rs 250-300 per bar.
The bold flavours, sheer variety and skill and effort put in for crafting EACH bar is what makes the Hamsa Handmade collection stand out. Easily, the star of this festive season and for seasons to come.
