Courtyard by Marriott has been on our shores since forever! Paprika is a neat, simple and sophisticated all day dining restaurant at this iconic hotel. The place has a laid back vibe with well-spaced seats, fresh decor, and really high ceilings which make it airy and calming, all of which instantly draws you in. A swarm of the staff is always around to assist and help you about and this is really an amazingly comfortable atmosphere to dine at.
There is now a RANGE of new dishes being introduced here at Paprika and we were invited to try these out. What’s new? Many new regional favourites from North & South India have been included in the menu. Also, they now have a separate Sushi bar which includes many Sushi options for vegetarians as well! Here is the review of these dishes and our Paprika experience in detail.
As we were warmly welcomed into this bright lit place, we were served with ‘Orange Sunset’, a strawberry and orange mocktail. This was the pleasant refreshment for us tired from the day’s work.
For that day’s dinner, there was a mix of Indian and Japanese cuisines which were all the new additions to the menu. The best part was that there was a lot for both the vegetarians and non-vegetarians to relish. While these would be a part of their a la carte, the buffet would also feature these on a rotational basis. For starters, we had Italian Flatbreads with Caramelised Onions and Marinara Sauce, Chettinad Paneer Tikka, Yasai (vegetable) Tempura, Chicken Pani Puri and Meatballs in Rustic Sauce. The Paneer Tikka was brilliant. Chunky, spicy and perfectly grilled. Next favourite would have to be the super crunchy, subtle, non-greasy Tempura of a variety of vegetables like potato, eggplant, zucchini, and peppers with it’s zingy sauce. Chicken Pani Puri was a unique twist on the favourite street food. Spicy chunks of chicken inside a slightly soggy puri was good taste wise but didn’t have the kick the pani in the puri would’ve given. Lamb Meatballs and the Italian Flatbread were on point and tasted well.
Then came the diverse assorted plate of Sushi which had 4 vegetarian and 2 non-vegetarian! The abundance of vegetarian sushi was quite welcome. Presented really beautifully, there were Cucumber, Seaweed, Sesame and Carrot, while the non-vegetarians had Crab and Salmon. All of these were super fresh and authentically prepared at the Sushi cart at the buffet. This is also a part of the buffet as is a part of their a la carte menu. The Soy and super punchy Wasabi was a perfect side for these.
Moving to the plethora of main courses that were served, the new dishes were the vibrant Lal Maass (Mutton), Lasooni Palak Paneer, Manga Meen Kozhambu and Subzi Panchamel. The Meen Kozhambu and Palak Paneer were the best of these! Scrumptious, perfect taste and aroma rich, these were the perfect accompaniments to the Breads and rice respectively. There were a lotta Breads on offer to; Garlic naan, Butter Naan, Lachcha Paratha, Kulcha and Methi Paratha. Special mention to their Dal as well! Homely, soulful and flavour packed, this was one of our favourites that night. There also was a Japanese Pancake that was really exquisite. Slightly sweet, salty and hot, the soft, overloaded, spongy pancake was unique in texture and flavour.
There were a LOT of desserts on display, as always, in their buffet. Doodh Peda , Jangri, Gulab Jamun, Chocolate Pudding, Banofee in a glass, Chocolate Fudge Cake, Florida Gateaux, Japanese Cheese Cake, Apple Crumble and Mango Cheese Cake were some of the absolute delights there! Sinful chocolate, creamy and light Japanese cheesecake, airy light meringue kisses were all exemplary of their prowess in desserts.
All these are priced at extremely reasonable rates and that’s another one of their attractive facets. While this was an invited dinner, we got to have a look at their menus where the cost for two for an a la carte dining would be about 1500 INR Nett. Buffet prices for lunch are 999 INR and for dinner is 1199 INR all taxes inclusive per diner.
